The MATHWEST 2012 Spring Conference

Date: April 27, 2012

Location: The Delaney House, Holyoke, MA

Topic: The Language of Mathematics

Make professional connections, while learning from experienced educators. Receive loads of great classroom activities and ideas, and return to your classroom with a renewed enthusiasm for teaching. Designed specifically for mathematics teachers, the conference is to be held in Holyoke, Massachusetts at The Delaney House.

Representing hundreds of teachers in various grade levels throughout Western Massachusetts, MATHWEST is the local partner affiliate of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

This year’s theme, “The Language of Mathematics,” establishes the importance of good communication skills.  Mathematical language skills include the abilities to read with comprehension, to express mathematical thoughts clearly, to reason logically, and to recognize and employ common patterns of mathematical thought. It is also important to incorporate the use of multiple representations in order to communicate the mathematics most effectively.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION
There are two ways to register for our conference. Online registration requires a credit card payment via Google Checkout. Please click here to register online. A $5 processing fee applies. Offline registration may be used for other forms of payment including credit cards, checks, money orders and purchase orders. You will just need to print and fill out a registration form and mail your payment to MATHWEST.

This year’s program is different from our past conferences.  Although the program will consist of special elementary, middle school, and high school tracks, there will only be one offering per grade level per session.  However, attendees are encouraged to attend sessions at any level. Each participant can attend up to three 1.5 hour workshops during the day. There will also be a variety of vendors available as well. And as always, there will be a coffee break and a full luncheon included in the price of the conference.
