DESCRIPTION:
The Advanced Mathematics institute will prepare grades 8 through 12 educators to work with a target population of advanced learners in the field of mathematics. Each class will center around 3 to 4 lessons or activities dealing with challenging concepts related to the specific theme of the day, from patterns to probability. Participants will then develop portfolios of instructional materials and resources to use in their classrooms. Instruction will include the integration of technology, specifically the TI-84 graphing calculator and Geometer’s Sketchpad. Teachers who successfully complete this institute will have a greater depth of knowledge of the concepts and skills in the Mathematics Curriculum Framework and the skills assessed on the Massachusetts Test for Educator Licensure (MTEL) for high school mathematics. In order to receive the professional development point, the participant must complete the 12 day course and fulfill the participation requirements. Space is limited to 25 people.
